HORN CONCERTO (1983)
Solo horn/2-2-3-3/4-3-3-1/timp,perc(3)/harp/strings (35:00)
Commissioned by Jonathan Boen, Betty Butler, and the Orchestra of Illinois
Published by Galaxy-Highgate Music

Jan Bach writes music to please. His Horn Concerto is anything but the gray, grimly cerebral kind of opus that almost every university composer in recent years seems to have cranked out.
                                                                             John Von Rhein, Chicago Tribune

Bach's taste and technique have enabled him to control the diverse elements, establishing a logical integration and creating a score of amazing unity.

                                                                         James Bastian, Lincoln (NE) Journal

It is a well-crafted, accessible work with dissonances, rhythms, and volume levels that will not unduly jangle the nerves.
                                                                    Wynne Delacoma, Chicago Sun-Times

PIANO CONCERTO (1975)
Solo piano/3-3-2-2/4-3-3-1/timp,perc(2)/strings,
Alfred Deller's recording of Byrd's "My Sweet Little Darling" (35:00)
Supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts
Published by Galaxy-Highgate Music

It is a thoroughly American work. But it is a thoroughly original work, too. Bach is a splendid craftsman.
                                                                       Robert C. Marsh, Chicago Sun-Times

It is attractive and brilliant and lots of fun. One predicts a long and happy repertory life for it.
                                                                           John Von Rhein, Chicago Tribune

It is all put together with evident delight and considerable skill.

                                                                        Phillip Huscher, Musical America
